The Millennial Mile: Understanding the Student of Today
Jason Headrick
Students today are different from many we in the profession have encountered. As counselors we find ourselves scratching our heads and wondering what we can do better. “Helicopter parents,” increased awareness and being the most racially and ethnically diverse generation in our country’s history are all trademarks of a millennial student. We will focus on understanding them as a generation and how to more effectively work with them.

Lunch: 12:00-12:45

Session 3: 1:00-2:00
Sensory Issues in the Classroom
Karole Doran
This session will provide an overview of the 7 senses and their impact on learning, behavior, social-emotional development and skills. The speaker will address assessment and intervention. You will leave this presentation thinking differently about student behavior and how to improve learning.

Session 4: 2:15-3:00
Psychiatric medications in the Classroom
Dr. Mike Mayo
This session will help us become more familiar with commonly prescribed medications for children and adolescents. Concurrently, he will provide brief descriptions of different diagnoses and how they present themselves in the classroom.
